DAY SEVEN – SATURDAY – FINAL DAY OF LEG TWO

IT WAS A cold start for the walk this morning with the temp about 39 degrees and walking at 7:15 a.m. Thank goodness for a sunny bright morning. Before leaving Union Springs to go down to the starting point at Halls Crossroad, David met Mr. Joe Adams that knew David’s friend from Union Springs that interned with him in Washington D.C. during the college years. Mr Adams knew the family well enough to give David a good update on how they were all doing. After having some conversation with Mr. Adams, the owner of a pecan business, we traveled to the starting point.

Today was a short day but a great day for walking. David carried my pack today testing how his back would react to a full frame pack. Therefore, I had the relief of carry his day pack. The result at the end of the walk was I think he is ready to try a backpacking trip. The distance for today was 10.1 miles and completed a total of 117.1 miles on this second leg.

We passed a beautiful, old, and historical church this morning. Another great porch with steps to take our mid morning break on. The church was Sardis Baptist Church. We have a picture of the church and the historical marker.

Another interesting point of interest was downtown Union Springs. There is a monument in the middle of a downtown street of a dog for the “Bullock County members of the Field Trial Hall of Fame”.

We ended this leg of the walk about two blocks from the monument at the intersection where Hiway 29 North and Hiway 82 East separate. Subway on one corner and McDonalds on the opposite corner.

This is the point of beginning for Third Leg to be planned and announced at a later time.

Pictures will be posted in some kind of sequence following this post.
