After
a great lunch break David and I traveled on headed toward Auburn. We had received some messages that some guys
were going to try to meet us and walk a distance. However, with the weather conditions we were
not expecting that. David had asked Jonathan
on Friday morning about Austin Wimberly (a mutual friend) that David had try to
get in touch with and couldn’t due to phone number changes. Jonathan had contact with Austin and said he
would track him down for David. Well it didn’t
take long , later on in the afternoon we are walking along and out ahead of us
we see a guy walking toward us with khakis and street shoes on. It was Austin, he lives in Birmingham but
was in Auburn for the day and came out and tracked us down. In the rain with street shoes on he walked 6
miles with us and we all enjoyed the visit.
There are pictures posted of David and Austin and also of Austin’s
shoes!
While
Austin was walking with us then David’s son Jason and more friends showed up and
positioned vehicles so they could walk the amount of time they could
spend. It was still rainy but not as bad
as the morning had been. We have
pictures of this group also. The members
of this group was Jason Bass, Mac Rubright, Randy Aldridge and his son
Sam. So all of a sudden on the worst
weather of the trip we had 5 people out walking with us. They really inspired and encouraged us and
made the afternoon walk feel easy and quicker.
Walking
along enjoying the visit with everyone Larry and Nancy Witt pulled up for one
of their many checkpoints with a cool bottle of water. You will hear more about this nice couple
cause they checked on us and helped every day.
We
completed the day with 19 miles for the total miles walked on Friday.
