First day of Leg 3 started at lunch yesterday (Thursday). We started in Union Springs after eating at the Subway at the intersection of hiway 29 and 82. Leg 2 stopped at the Subway. The afternoon walk was great with good weather conditions and traffic conditions. Although it was a beautiful afternoon it did get very warm pounding the pavement. The temp recorded on my backpack on the highway reached 90 degrees. We walked 10.3 miles in under 4 hours of walking. After completion of the walk, shuttling the vehicles, scouting and measuring Fridays walk, we set up a base camp at Chewacla State Park. After camp was set up David and I met Jason and Stephen and some of their friends at Veggies To Go for dinner and then had the opportunity to watch Jason and Stephen play in an intramural "ultimate frisbee" game. If you ever get the chance to watch one of these games, take it in. It is a fun action packed game to watch. So the late night caused no posting on the blog.
Second day on Friday. Rains were predicted to move in early this morning. However, we were fortunate to get our packs loaded and everything ready for the day at base camp before the rains began. But when the rain started it was here and steady, not to mention it was cold.. The temp on my backpack was struggling to get to 50 degrees. Our stopping point on Thursday and starting point this morning was about 10 miles south of Tuskegee. We started actually walking at 9:10 Even with the rain we got in 19 miles. We had lunch on Friday in downtown Tuskegee at The Coop restaurant.
Thursday night we were late getting to camp and bed and on Friday night I was sitting in camp operating laptop and wifi on battery source and the wifi battery died. Therefore, the writing and posting tonight (saturday night) is in the laundry room at the campground. I have many pictures downloaded and will start posting soon.
