Late
in the day we had the 7th guest walker for the day show up. Mark Price a student at Auburn and friend of
the Bass boys joined up to walk about the last 4 miles of the day’s route. Mark rode with us for the final shuttle all
the way back to the beginning point of the day.
He had an interest in seeing how far and where we had walked. Plus the benefit for David and I to spend
more time connecting with him in conversation.
As
I was driving the old van down to where David’s car was parked at the starting
point a sheriff’s deputy zoomed past us on the two lane road. When we pulled up to the car the deputy was
there with blue lights flashing looking in the car very cautiously. I rolled the window down and identified
ourselves and stated we were hiking and the car was there for our shuttle. About that time the radio blared “the vehicle
is registered to David Bass.” David
quickly responded “And I am David Bass!”
All was well and the day was successful, just wet!
Glenn
Brooks does this sound familiar from the trail head at Andrew Jackson Trail??
